ELDT Behind the Wheel Range and Road Training

Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Range Training (1-3 hrs.)

Intercheck provides extensive BTW range training that teaches driving exercises related to:

  • Federally required basic vehicle control skills and mastery of fundamental maneuvers.
    • Vehicle Inspection.
    • Backing Skills; straight-line, alley docking, and off-set backing.
    • Parallel Parking; blind and sight side.
    • Coupling and Uncoupling.
  • G.O.A.L. – “Get Out and Look” safety procedures for backing maneuvers.

Driver trainees must demonstrate competency in ALL the skills defined in CFR §380.605.

There are NO required minimum instructional hours for BTW training.

Instructors must document trainee hours and proficiency in each skill.

 

 

Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Road Training  (1-3 hrs.)

Intercheck provides comprehensive BTW road training that teaches driving exercises related to:

  • Federally mandated instruction on safe vehicle operating procedures.
    • Vehicle Controls; turning, lane changes, curves, and highway entry/exit.
    • Safe Driving Operations; shifting, signaling, speed and space management.
    • Safe Driver Behavior and Hours of Service requirements.
  • Trainee ability to identify potential dangers and proper operational techniques.
  • Hazard Perception, Railroad Crossings, Night Operations and Extreme Conditions.
  • Skid Control/Recovery, Jackknifing, and other Emergencies.

Driver trainees must demonstrate competency in ALL public road driving skills.

There are NO required minimum instructional hours for BTW training.

Instructors must document trainee hours and proficiency in each skill, and active two-way communication with trainees during all active BTW road training sessions.
